Central Heating System and Boiler Installation in Haslemere

Buxton Heating recently completed a complex heating installation in a 100-year-old converted barn complex just outside of Haslemere, Surrey. The property required a complete re-fit including radiators and a hot water system, but the age and layout of the property presented a number of problems which we had to overcome.

Worcester Bosch System Boiler Provides The Solution

The job required the fitting of a boiler, hot water cylinder, controls and pipework in the garage and the installation of radiators throughout the property. In addition, we also fitted some extended pipework through to an orangery for a later extension.

The solution for the central heating installation came in the form of a Worcester Bosch system boiler and unvented hot water cylinder. However, we did suspect that the mains water pressure was too low for an unvented hot water cylinder, which can provide a hot water flow rate in excess of 35 litres per minute. It was decided to complete the installation with the existing mains water pressure and to see if this was suitable. The boiler and cylinder were placed in position and then the clips laid out for the pipework, after this the pipework was joined and the multiple connections made for the flow/return, gas, condense, hot, cold and expansion pipework. These were then all connected, filled and tested and after this all the water carrying pipework was lagged/insulated to protect from frost and to retain as much heat as possible. As suspected, the mains water pressure proved to be below the requirement giving just enough pressure for one shower. To overcome this problem, the system is now being upgraded with an accumulator and booster set being fitted in the garage next to the hot water cylinder.

In addition, the distance  between the hot water cylinder and radiators gave the added concern of a long ‘wait time’ for the hot water to arrive at the taps. This was solved with the addition of a Brass Pump and timer, which circulated the hot water to the hot taps prior to their use.

Boiler and Hot Water Cylinder Successfully Installed

As the images above illustrate, The Worcester Bosch system comprised of a 30 CDI System boiler (30 Kilowatt boiler) a 300-litre single coil unvented hot water cylinder, a brass circulation pump, Nest thermostatic room thermostat/timer and Danfoss zone valves.
Due to the extent of the work, including the radiators and plant, we had 3 engineers on this installation and the job was completed within a week.  Coming as it did at a particularly cold time of year, the client was delighted with their entire new hot water and and central heating system: “Excellent – helpful friendly and a very efficient team who did the install. All working perfectly. Hugely impressed.”
